 | Helmet
This sculpture is more ceremonial. The fact that it is too heavy to be worn is part of the art. It would be great if all armor was too heavy to be carried.
It is most importantly a visual and physical letter to my son, Ryan, who just celebrated his tenth birthday . . . his passage into becoming a man. It is about releasing old forms of the warrior, being caretaker of the earth and giving back whenever possible.
Dad's most important words to his son, "respect, accountability, and is it fair." On the left side of the helmet is an excerpt from "Battle of the Trees" taken from Robert Graves' book, "The White Goddess."
